Full-Time Faculty Appointment in Photpgraphy and Digital Imaging

Ringling College of Art + Design, beginning August 2010

To meet the needs of an expanding academic vision and a growing student body, Ringling College is seeking qualified candidates for a full time faculty position in Photography and Digital Imaging (PDI). The department has a supportive, collegial faculty and robust curriculum that strongly values excellence.

Duties

Contributions to the development and refinement of the program. Ability to teach a broad range of photography subjects within a menu of beginning through advanced PDI courses within a structure of three courses or nine credits per semester. Ongoing commitment to creative work/research in the profession is expected and active participation with faculty, department and college service is required. The successful candidate should be well versed in all aspects of contemporary photography and be willing to explore the relationships between fine-art and commercial photography as well as the new ways images are being experienced via the web and other electronic media.

This is a full time appointment with faculty status. The salary will be commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications and experience. The anticipated start date is August 1, 2010.

Required Qualifications

  • MFA degree with an emphasis in photography
  • Advanced knowledge of both traditional and digital processes
  • Successful college level teaching
  • Knowledge and commitment to health and safety in the arts

Preferred Qualifications

  • Active record of creative achievement and exhibitions
  • Advanced knowledge of Photoshop, color management, digital printing and experience with Macintosh computing
  • Expertise with time-based media including editing and sound application software
  • Experience working in medium and large format photography and printing
  • Experience with studio and location lighting
  • Ability to teach film-based and digital imaging from a contemporary perspective with references to both fine-art and multi-media practices
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a studio-oriented environment with diverse approaches
  • Awareness of both current and evolving issues facing the field and strategies to best address them
